Since Hurricane Michael hit on October 10, 2018, we’ve been collecting donations and working with volunteers and rescues to provide assistance for those in need. Many are still with housing, basic needs, internet and access to assistance while others received their FEMA checks and left town, leaving animals behind. It’s a very sad situation that no one seems to be talking about, but please know – help is still needed! A great deal of effort goes into collecting, delivering and distributing donations and we’d like to thank everyone for their support.

Suwannee County Shelter Project – 2018

The Suwannee County shelter located in North Central, Florida is a very rural and underfunded shelter. The animals had been living in horrible conditions, but that changed in 2018! A group of rescuers collected donations and much needed supplies planned a work weekend to give these animals better living conditions!

For the past five years, the Bruno Foundation and Racing4Reascues have worked together to provide food and supplies to the animals of Suwannee County and our hearts broke for them. Our Christmas in the Shelter donation drive provided thousands of pounds of food and supplies and was a great success thanks to the help of our supporters and a group of caring people. With the shelter under new management and with the help of Daytona Beach German Shepherd Rescue and supporters, we were able to do more and really make a difference! We were all determined to transform this shelter and make it better for the animals and those that care for them.

The old disgusting kennels were torn down and replaced with new materials, dog houses and beds. Large dog houses were delivered to give the dogs a structure with protection from the elements. The storage sheds were cleaned out to make room for all the donations of food, beds, toys, and supplies. And thanks to our wonderful Bruno Foundation donors, we were very excited to have provided a fenced play area for the dogs to be able to get out of their kennels and get exercise! It’s pretty amazing to see the transformation and we’re extremely excited to be a part of such a great group of people working together to make a difference in the lives of so many animals.

If you’d like to be a part of our mission, there are several ways you can help! An Amazon wishlist has been set up where you can simply order online and it will be delivered directly to the shelter, an account has been set up for donations to help with additional building materials and supplies! We hope you join our mission! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
